Idiyappam – Kerala Style String Hoppers

🧺 Ingredients
Idiyappam:
  • 2 cups rice flour / idiyappam flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cups water (approx.)
  • 1 tsp oil
Vegetable Stew:
  • Cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, pepper
  • Shallots, green chillies
  • Ginger, garlic, curry leaves
  • Carrot, potato, beans, peas
  • Thin & thick coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
🔥 Method
  1. Mix rice flour with salt in a bowl.
  2. Boil water with oil and add gradually to flour.
  3. Mix and knead into smooth, non-sticky dough.
  4. Grease idiyappam mould and fill dough.
  5. Press spirals onto greased plates.
  6. Steam for 7–10 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with vegetable stew.
  8. For stew: sauté spices, onions, ginger, garlic.
  9. Add vegetables and cook with thin coconut milk.
  10. Finish with thick coconut milk (do not boil).
